Benefits Brighton

Benefits play Brighton at The Hope & Ruin on 23rd October 2024! Get tickets from 10am on 12th July with only a 50p booking fee above or from Seetickets.

Forming in 2019 and consisting of Kingsley Hall on vocals and Robbie Major on synths and noise, Benefits quickly evolved into a highly politicised group that aims to merge noise, hardcore, hip hop, industrial rock, electronica, and an angry twitter feed to get it’s point across.

A resolutely DIY outfit they have managed to gain fans as diverse as Sleaford Mods, Steve Albini, Black Francis, Garbage, Billy Bragg and Elijah Wood as well as getting significant features in the NME, Rolling Stone, the Guardian, and the Quietus.

In 2023 they released their abrasive debut album “NAILS” on Invada Records which garnered significant critical acclaim as well as numerous album of the year nods, most significantly from Louder Than War magazine and BBC6music.

An inspiring, loud and formidable live outfit they aim to keep the momentum going from their debut as they prepare to release the follow up.

+ Polite Bureaux: Bradford, the city of Culture, formed the broken-beat-maker Joe Smith, also known as Polite Bureaux. Gaining airplay on BBC Introducing with Melita Dennett and Callum French. While gaining support from the famous music & culture magazine Louder Than War. 2024 has seen Polite Bureaux on a UK support tour with Meryl Streek, with a Debut DIY Album release, already selling out 100 Limited Edition Vinyl Records – announcing their September Headline UK Tour ‘MADE IN BROKE BRITAIN’ . And gaining airplay on BBC6 Music with Deb Grant and Tom Ravo with their track ‘SCRATCHCARD’ from Their Debut DIY Album.

Accessibility:
The venue is only accessible via a flight of stairs however they can offer access via a back door at street level to the venue if mobility is an issue or you use a wheelchair. There are 3 large steps via this route so assistance to gain access and to exit the venue would be required. We can arrange this if you contact us in advance of a show. Please bear in mind that they can only allow access in between bands due to sound issues. Two disabled toilets upstairs, both gender neutral. If you require a carer at the venue, please contact us at info@lovethyneighbourmusic.co.uk for guestlist, with evidence such as a blue badge or access card. If strobe lighting is an issue or if standing for long periods of time is an issue, please contact us in advance. They can provide chairs in the venue although if the event is very busy this will impede visibility. If you wish to make use of a chair to view a gig, we advise arriving early to secure a position. They are happy to accommodate assistance dogs.
