Blood Wizard today releases new single – babytooth, out now via London based boutique label, Sad Club Records. Blood Wizard is the project of Cai Burns, a songwriter who has, over the last couple of years, built a reputation as one of the UK underground’s most underrated ears when it comes to arresting hooks and pop smarts. Blood Wizard’s debut album Western Spaghetti, released in 2021, won accolades from those in-the-know – with Huw Stephens at BBC 6Music offering particularly effusive praise  babytooth manages to sound both intimate and ambitious; with influences ranging from Alex G to Cate Le Bon.

On the new single, Blood Wizard says:

“babytooth is a call to my inner child to stick around a bit longer. Making music is something that connects me to that chaotic, childlike energy that can so easily be lost. That energy is something I’ve wanted to try and nurture by returning to a more instinctual way of writing music that focuses more on feelings and less on thoughts. For me the song feels like losing a part of yourself to the big, bad world, like it’s slipping through your fingers when you’re not ready to let it go”

+ Maximilian: Since 2021 audiences across Brighton and London have been watching and listening attentively at Maximilian’s shows supporting a mixture of artists such as Naima Bock, Ora Cogan, John Maus, Heka, SkyDaddy, Nina Winder-Lind (The New Eves), and many more.
The songs combine influences from 90’s alternative music with spiritual, reflective and simple songwriting for fans of Elliott Smith, Alex G, Adrianne Lenker.
Since the release of Maximilian’s locally long awaited debut album ‘Surrender’, DIY self produced over three years, he has been working away at new material, debuting new songs at each show. With a more organic approach than before, more akin to the sun rather than the moon, Maximilian is certainly moving on from the near musical past. Expect to hear and feel new things at each show.
