Desperate Journalist formed in 2013 in North London. Their self released ‘Cristina’ EP and energetic early live shows soon caught the attention of ‘most indie man alive’ Simon Williams who promptly signed them to Fierce Panda records. Over a decade and 4 albums later, the post-punk foursome (Jo, Rob, Simon and Caz) have built a growing loyal fanbase around the UK and across Europe. Following on from the success of ‘Maximum Sorrow!’, 2023 saw the band play their biggest shows to date, supporting Suede on their sell out Autofiction tour. The band’s 5th album ‘No Hero’ arrives this September and promises to be both their most ambitious and accessible material to date.

+ Where We Sleep: Where We Sleep is the latest incarnation of Beth Rettig’s musical vision, a deeply personal, poetic exploration of the world soundtracked with ‘electro-filth’. With a host of on-off collaborators – Ben Pritchard (The Fall), Debbie Smith (Curve/Echobelly), Axel Ray (Cadet A/United Ghosts), Rettig crafts powerful but hook-laden tracks that draw a direct lineage to acts like Garbage, Curve, PJ Harvey, Kate Bush, Jesus and Mary Chain and Massive Attack, using these legendary sounds as a palette to paint her own odes to the broken.

+ Watching Alice: Watching Alice is an artist whose anthems are a puzzle piece in her indie rock heart. Her powerful voice punches right into the face of the listener and guides them through her emotive writings. Drawing from her own experiences ,and living with facial palsy, Watching Alice creates a sound that pulls on your heart whilst you bang your head along.

Please note that the venue is located in a basement and does not offer step-free access. There is a handrail for the stairs. Seating is available at the back of the live space, though the view may be limited. The toilets are gendered but unfortunately does not provide a disabled toilet on site. Strobe lighting is used during performances, but it is controlled by staff and can be turned off upon request.
