Formed in 2017 following the dissolution of their previous incarnation, Liverpool experimental altpop trio REAL TERMS’ intention from the get-go was to take the intricate, staccato, highly-rhythmic best of their old sound as Vasco Da Gama and transcend what they saw as the limitations of the math-rock genre, injecting their material with a dose of pop songwriting structure and melody.
The band followed up their 2020 EP Housework with 2023’s debut album Vantage, produced by David Berger (Outfit), and drawing comparisons to Everything Everything, The Police, American Football, Frank Zappa and Fleet Foxes; the band’s eclectic sonic influences shining through the album.
Vantage was released on Sofa Boy Records, the new label run by UK math rock stalwarts Delta Sleep, who say they started the label “for this exact reason—to work with bands we love and respect”. Real Terms have shared the stage with some of the biggest names from the experimental underground scene including TTNG, Tera Melos, Standards, Alpha Male Tea Party, and after a seasoned era of teeth-cutting that’s seen them hone their sound to a precision edge, they’re now setting off on another UK tour. https://realtermsband.com
“Veil is Thinner does the impossible – making a wild, experimental track feel effortlessly poppy and
joyfully simple” Noizze
“Sky scraping harmonies, sugar rush twiddles … beautifully bold … they know how to reel you in
before they push you off into the wilderness, arms aloft. Astonishing” Birthday Cake For

+ lets swim, get swimming: if mathmatical, hectic and comedy driven tomfoolery is something that tickles your tastebuds then you’ve reached your destination. A two piece instrumental math-rock band from the depths of Guildford- relocated to Brighton (we love seagulls) Full on energy and witty entries give LSGS an interesting (yet warm and comfy) place in the indie and math scene. Come wet your whistle and have a gander!
+ Pickpockets: Since 2018, Pickpockets have woven their distinctive, nostalgic, and impactful songwriting into the fabric of Brighton’s indie scene. Their magnetic performances have graced renowned local venues like The Green Door Store, The Prince Albert, and Concorde2, drawing sold-out crowds. As they embrace a fresh era of noughties-inspired indie and Brit pop, Pickpockets return to the vibrant stage of Brighton’s live music scene.
