Thomas Truax Brighton

Thomas Truax live in Brighton at The Prince Albert on Friday 10th October! Get tickets above, or from SeeTickets.

Thomas Truax is an inventive American songwriter who makes music that takes you on a whimsical and unpredictable sonic journey. His live performances captivate audiences with a delightful blend of homemade instruments, live guitar looping, and enchanting storytelling.

His unique self-made ‘band mates’ include a motorized drum machine made of bike wheels, spoons and other found items called ‘Mother Superior’ and a souped up Gramophone called ‘The Hornicator’

Armed with these and a guitar named Hank, he writes poetically evocative songs about insects, trees, technology, love, and a lifelong fascination with the Moon. His music evades easy pigeonholing, dancing between art rock, post-punk, touches of 50s rockabilly and a distinct brand of surreal Americana.

Ten studio LPs include a highly-rated covers album ‘Songs From The Films Of David Lynch’.
‘Dream Catching Songs,’ features renowned drummer Budgie (Siouxsie & the Banshees, the Slits, The Creatures) thundering along side Truax’s self-made mechanical drummer Mother Superior. A string of new singles are in the pipeline for release coinciding with upcoming tour dates.

Though he usually performs solo, other notable past supporters and collaborators have included Jarvis Cocker, Duke Special, James Smith of Yard Act, Richard Hawley, Bob Log III, Brian Viglione (Dresden Dolls/Violent Femmes) and the late author Terry Pratchett.

“Endlessly inventive and creative…A show not to be missed!” -Oxford Times

“The spectacle of Truax’s live set is unlike anything that you’ll see elsewhere, but if it was all about the mechanical stagecraft it wouldn’t keep bringing us back. Thankfully the songs sparkle with the same sense of invention, imbued with humour and heart”  -Joyzine

“Truax is shaping up nicely as one of the great rock eccentrics.” -UNCUT https://thomas-truax.bandcamp.com/

+ Christian Le Surf: Born in Angmering and based in Brighton, Christian Le Surf is a singer-songwriter and artist creating experimental pop worlds that dive into inclinations of post-rock, folk and indie pop. Taking a chameleonic approach to his work, Christian’s music explores odysseys into songs surrounding themes of politics and heartbreak, or vast polyrhythmic minimalism projects, all the while maintaining a distinct nostalgia-infused sound palette that has enjoyed cult success and BBC Introducing airplay.

Christian has enjoyed his growth in the Brighton live music circuit, coming off the back of projects like his 2021 debut album ‘Bontempi Cher Lloyd 1999’, or his two back-to-back EPs dropped in October 2023, ‘The King’s Meadow’ and ‘The Scroll’, the latter of which saw a sell-out show at The Folklore Rooms complete with stage interviews and a disorienting live performance. Christian operates his live shows between a full live band and an invigorating solo loop pedal-based arrangement that melds surreal improvisational performances with skeletons of his songs. His sophomore album, ‘Chicago, the Moon!’, released this spring, welcomed fans to a dark analysis of sentimentality and anxiety via a Hope and Ruin headline show, complete with a troupe of 10 musicians for its hypnotic title track. http://linktr.ee/christianlesurfmusic/
