Australian-based guitar-driven music has for the better part of recent memory been quantified globally by jubilant, sun-dappled rhythms with motifs of desire and infatuation – DZ Deathrays make no such promise, nor will they ever. With over a decade long tenure to their name, the group have long cemented their space in contemporary Australian music as a necessity for doing just the opposite, marked by their ability to consistently churn out innovative call to arms riffage as visceral as they are frenetic.

Their mainstay status is marked by an ongoing tally of appearances across every career building pillar: arena tours supporting Foo Fighters and Biffy Clyro to name a few, multiple international appearances at SXSW, Reading and Leeds amongst headline tours, several Splendour In The Grass, Laneway and Falls Festivals, and ARIA Awards is testament to that fact. From every house party that took them to 1000+ capacity venues and beyond, Shane Parsons, Simon Ridley, and more recently joined by Lachlan Ewbank, have never let go of their core objective in doing it because they can.

+ Knives: Bristolian Post Punk band Knives debuted with their First EP “Newshounds” in April before releasing their highly anticipated cover of Kate Bush’s Babooshka. With their pop infused style that invents a fresh spin on punk, they have taken a leap into the UK alternative circuit. They have thrived playing shows alongside flagship punk bands; Mclusky, CLT DRP, Tokky Horror, LIFE, and Enola Gay. Their chaotic live set captures attention from anyone in the audience. Although they have many more shows to come, Knives are looking forward to releasing more shouting anthems, critiquing our societal challenges. Since the release of their first single, Knives have revelled in its impressive response whilst selling out an energetic Rough Trade Bristol headline show that ignited a feeling of motivation which led them to bring the chaos around the EU later on in the year.

The effort is created by saxophonist Maddy Hill, Dan Farren and Josh Cook on guitar, bassist Ben Marshall, Erin Cook on Drums and Jay Schottlander on vocals (and on-stage nonsensical chatter). They all take creative leaps to design the soundtrack to an unforgettable gig, spitting out dramatic breakdowns and aggressive lyrics.
